The University of Granada (UGR) is spread across the whole city. The Fuentenueva campus, next to Camino de Ronda, concentrates sciences and engineering; Cartuja, on a hill to the north, brings together humanities, education and pharmacy; Aynadamar hosts fine arts and computer science, and the PTS (Health Technology Park), to the south, groups medicine and health sciences. On top of that, faculties such as law and translation sit right in the historic centre, mixing lectures and city life.
The student neighbourhood par excellence is Pedro Antonio de Alarcón, together with the whole Camino de Ronda area: right next to Fuentenueva and packed with student flats. The Plaza de Toros and Beiro area is handy for Cartuja and Aynadamar; the Realejo and the centre combine Granada's atmosphere with the central faculties, and the Zaidín is the most practical choice for the PTS. The Albaicín is beautiful, but its steep streets and old houses make it less convenient for everyday life.
Granada is one of the cheapest university cities in Spain. A room usually costs between 250 and 400 euros per month depending on the area, and a place in a student residence between 530 and 800. Add around 180-250 euros for food, although your budget stretches further here than almost anywhere: with the free tapa that comes with every drink, eating out can cost very little. You'll barely spend anything on transport, since the city is compact and you can walk almost everywhere.
Granada is a walking city: from the centre to the Fuentenueva campus takes little more than ten minutes on foot. The light rail crosses the city from north to south along Camino de Ronda and the Zaidín, with a stop next to Fuentenueva, and the university bus lines climb up to Cartuja and Aynadamar, which sit on a hill. And when you need a break, both Sierra Nevada and the beaches of the Costa Tropical are barely an hour away by bus.
