Student accommodation in Madrid

Madrid is Spain's largest university city and a huge destination for both local and international students. It is home to enormous campuses such as the Complutense University, a vibrant cultural scene and public transport that reaches everywhere. You don't need to be an Erasmus student: on Lupo Rooms you'll find rooms for any student, verified one by one, available all year round, with transparent contracts and no agency fees. The price you see is the price you pay.

Universities in Madrid

Madrid is home to some of the largest universities in Europe. The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) occupies the vast Ciudad Universitaria campus next to Moncloa, while the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) has its campus in Cantoblanco, to the north of the city. They are joined by the Polytechnic, Carlos III, Rey Juan Carlos and many private universities. Each campus has its own ideal accommodation area, so it pays to choose your room based on where you will actually be studying.

Best areas for students in Madrid

Moncloa-Arguelles is the student area par excellence, right next to Ciudad Universitaria and perfect if you study at the Complutense. Chamberi is central, quiet and highly rated. The Centro district, with Malasana and Lavapies, offers the youngest and most lively nightlife. Cuatro Caminos and Tetuan are very well connected and somewhat more affordable. For the lowest prices, look towards Vallecas, Carabanchel or Usera. And if you study at the Autonomous University, Chamartin puts you close to the commuter trains heading up to Cantoblanco.

Cost of living and rent in Madrid

Madrid is expensive, though slightly below Barcelona. A student room costs around 450-700 euros a month depending on the area: the centre and Moncloa push prices up, while Vallecas or Carabanchel work out cheaper. Add about 200-300 euros a month for food and very little for transport if you are under 26. Sharing a flat is still the cheapest option. On Lupo Rooms the displayed price includes everything agreed, with no agency fees or last-minute surprises.

Getting around Madrid

Madrid's public transport is among the best in Europe: twelve metro lines, a huge Renfe commuter rail network, EMT buses around the clock and BiciMAD for getting around by bike. The big advantage for students is the Abono Joven travel pass: just 20 euros a month for under-26s, with access to the entire Madrid region network. That's why many students can live a bit further from campus without transport hurting their budget.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a student room cost in Madrid?
In Madrid, a student room usually costs between 450 and 700 euros a month depending on the area and the type of room. The centre and Moncloa are pricier; Vallecas, Carabanchel or Usera are cheaper. On Lupo Rooms the price you see is the final one, with no hidden fees or agency charges.
Which areas are best for students in Madrid?
It depends on where you study. If you go to the Complutense, Moncloa-Arguelles, Chamberi or Centro are the most convenient. If you study at the Autonomous University, look near the C-4 commuter line (Chamartin, Cuatro Caminos) or to the north. To stretch your budget, Vallecas, Carabanchel and Usera offer the lowest prices with good metro links.
When should I start looking for a room?
Ideally one or two months before you arrive, especially around the start of term (September and February), when demand peaks. On Lupo Rooms you can book online as soon as you find your room, without travelling.
What does the rent usually include?
It depends on each room, but it usually includes furniture and, in many cases, bills (water, electricity, gas, internet). Each listing clearly shows what is included and which costs are separate before you book.
Do I need to be an Erasmus student to rent?
No. Any student can rent with Lupo Rooms, domestic or international, whether on Erasmus or not. We offer short- and long-term contracts all year round in Madrid.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The price you see is the price you pay: no agency fees and no surprise charges. Every room is verified by our team before it goes live.
