Student accommodation in Malaga

Malaga is one of the most sought-after university cities in Spain: the University of Malaga gathers around 35,000 students across the Teatinos and El Ejido campuses, and the sea is twenty minutes from class. Sunshine almost all year, a huge Erasmus community and a street life that does not switch off in October. On Lupo Rooms you find rooms verified one by one, with the final price upfront and a clear contract from day one.

Universities in Malaga

The University of Malaga (UMA) is split between two campuses. Teatinos, west of the city, hosts Sciences, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Law, Economics, Arts and Humanities and Health Sciences, along with the main library, the canteens and the sports facilities. The El Ejido campus, right next to the centre, is home to Architecture and Industrial Engineering. Together they add up to some 35,000 students, with a large international community and exchange programmes among the most requested in the country.

Best areas for students in Malaga

Teatinos is the student district par excellence: shared flats, student residences, supermarkets and bars right beside the faculties. El Ejido and La Trinidad sit by the other campus and a short walk from the historic centre, which is the choice for atmosphere even if it costs more. Carretera de Cádiz, Huelin and Cruz de Humilladero are cheaper and have a direct metro or bus, while Ciudad Jardín and Pedregalejo are quiet, the latter with the beach at your door.

Cost of living and rent in Malaga

Malaga is no longer the bargain it once was, but it still sits well below Madrid or Barcelona. A room in a shared flat costs between 350 and 500 euros a month depending on the area, and a place in a student residence between 550 and 900, with bills and services included. Add around 200-250 euros for food and just over 30 euros for a transport pass if you live far from the Teatinos campus.

Getting around Malaga

The Malaga metro has two lines: line 1 runs out to Teatinos and line 2 follows Carretera de Cádiz to El Perchel, and both stop beside a campus. EMT buses cover the rest of the city and reach the eastern beaches. The C-1 commuter train links the centre with the airport and continues to Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola, and the airport is only fifteen minutes from the centre.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a student room cost in Malaga?
In Malaga a student room in a shared flat normally costs between 350 and 500 euros a month depending on the area and whether bills are included, and a place in a student residence between 550 and 900. Teatinos and the historic centre are the priciest; Carretera de Cádiz or Cruz de Humilladero the most affordable. On Lupo Rooms the price you see is the final one.
Which areas are best for students in Malaga?
The best areas are Teatinos, next to the main UMA campus; El Ejido and La Trinidad, by the Architecture and Industrial Engineering campus and close to the centre; the historic centre for atmosphere and services; and Carretera de Cádiz, Huelin or Cruz de Humilladero for a better price with a direct metro. Every listing shows the exact location.
When should I start looking for a room?
Ideally one or two months before you arrive, especially around the start of term (September and February), when demand peaks. On Lupo Rooms you can book online as soon as you find your room, without travelling.
What does the rent usually include?
It depends on each room, but it usually includes furniture and, in many cases, bills (water, electricity, gas, internet). Each listing clearly shows what is included and which costs are separate before you book.
Do I need to be an Erasmus student to rent?
No. Any student can rent with Lupo Rooms, domestic or international, whether on Erasmus or not. We offer short- and long-term contracts all year round in Malaga.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The price you see is the price you pay: no agency fees and no surprise charges. Every room is verified by our team before it goes live.
