The University of Granada (UGR) is an urban university spread over several campuses. Fuentenueva, next to Camino de Ronda, concentrates sciences and engineering; Cartuja, on a hill to the north, brings together humanities, education and pharmacy; Aynadamar hosts fine arts and computer science, and the PTS (Health Technology Park), to the south, groups medicine and health sciences. Faculties such as law and translation sit right in the historic centre. It's a comprehensive, highly international university and one of Europe's top receivers of Erasmus students.
The best area depends on your campus. For Fuentenueva, Pedro Antonio de Alarcón and Camino de Ronda are the natural choice, the student neighbourhood par excellence; for Cartuja and Aynadamar, the Plaza de Toros, Beiro and San Ildefonso areas sit at the foot of the hill; for the PTS, the Zaidín is the most practical, and for the central faculties, the Realejo and the centre put Granada's atmosphere on your doorstep.
Living near the UGR is affordable: a room costs around 250-400 euros per month, and a place in a student residence between 530 and 800. Add around 180-250 euros for food — helped by the free tapa, going out costs very little — and almost nothing for transport, since most campuses are within walking distance. Sharing a flat in Pedro Antonio or the Zaidín is the cheapest formula for UGR students.
The UGR campuses are well connected. Fuentenueva is a walk away from half the city, or a light rail ride — there's a stop right next to the campus; the university bus lines climb the hill to Cartuja and Aynadamar, and the PTS is a short hop from the Zaidín, with several direct bus lines. For most students, walking is the fastest and cheapest option.
