The Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) is one of the most prestigious public universities in Spain, known for its research. Its Cantoblanco campus lies to the north of the city, outside the centre and surrounded by green areas, with its own commuter rail station inside the grounds. Because it is set apart, the key when choosing a room is not living next to the campus but having quick access by train.
For the Autonomous University, the key is the C-4 commuter line, which links the centre with Cantoblanco. Living near stations like Chamartin or Nuevos Ministerios puts you one direct train from campus. Cuatro Caminos and the northern area also work well. If you prefer to keep the commute as short as possible, the northern neighbourhoods of Madrid or towns like Tres Cantos are very close to Cantoblanco.
Since the campus sits outside the centre, near the Autonomous University you can find slightly more affordable rooms than next to the Complutense, especially in the northern area: around 450-650 euros a month depending on the location. Add about 200-300 euros for food and just 20 euros for transport with the Abono Joven pass, which covers the commuter trains up to Cantoblanco. Sharing a flat lowers the total. On Lupo Rooms the displayed price is the final one, with no agency fees.
The Cantoblanco campus has its own commuter rail station on the C-4 line, which connects with Atocha and Chamartin in about 20-30 minutes. That is the usual route for Autonomous University students. The Abono Joven pass at 20 euros a month for under-26s covers both the commuter trains and all of Madrid's metro and buses, so getting to campus is very cheap even if you live in the centre.
